You have given me so MUCH great advice, so you probably know this, but I will pass it on just in case. Cats do not like the wire in the bottom of the trap, so use a layer of newspaper from outside the trap into the trap. (Of course you do not put it over the treadle.)

I wrap black plastic around the trap and leave the ends open, because I was told cats like to see through a trap. Supposedly they are more likely to enter a tunnel than a cave.

Yes, you will! Great idea to revisit these stories and remind us what faith and persistence can bring.
...I'm visualizing Mugsy and her mom together again and local news cameras there to record the happy reunion...

Is Mugsy's owner Etta Mayfield or their children able to make a recording of their voice calling Mugsy? Perhaps if Mugsy heard it she might come out if played loudly enough. Or if Mugsy was attached to the late Mr. Mayfield, a recording of his voice....this story is so sad. I hope Mugsy is found and kudos to you for your effort. Thank you for keeping us all posted.

If you have a bad phone number, sometimes you can use the Internet to discover who used to have the number. I usually Google, check ZabaSearch (free to a degree) and NetDetective (least expensive subscription.) The last two work well in tandem. Zaba tends to give up more names of people in the household, while NetD is better at showing phone numbers and address history.

Sometimes ZabaSearch will offer a report on a phone number including historical information. The one time I paid a dollar, there was no prior owner listed. I called trying to find out some other way to get the info and they gave me a credit.

If it is a bad cellphone, you are probably stuck. If it is a bad land line number, then you can check with neighbors to see if they know the family or animal.

If you ever need help with this, get in touch. We have a mutual friend in your area who would help you. I also have Stealth Volunteers who would do this research for you. I know you are usually looking for the animal, but if you are looking for someone, that is what we do.
